WATERTOWN - Alfred Durgan, Jr. 81, formerly of Turin, passed away on Friday, September 12, 2014, at Samaritan Medical Center. Alfred was born on January 28, 1933, to Alfred Durgan, Sr. and Hazel Durgan and attended Rome City Schools. He was first employed by A.M.F. in Lowville, by South Lewis Central School as a custodian, by Harden Furniture and retired from Sergeants Chair Factory as a machine operator. On July 7, 1961, he married Doris Gibbs at the Boonville First Presbyterian Church. Doris died September 1, 1987. Alfred was a member of the Watertown Eagles Club. He loved to fish; play bingo and "pitch" and also enjoyed helping his neighbors. His family lovingly remembers Dad carrying a 1974 silver dollar for 40 years. Mr. Durgan is survived by his children: Dawn Gibbs Clark of Beaver Falls; Jody and Lori Durgan of Lowville; Connie Durgan and companion Lisa Snide of Carthage; Bonnie and Billy Rocker of Liverpool and Sandra Durgan and companion Kelly Burnash of Adams Center; two brothers: George A. and Doris Durgan and Kenneth and Tammy Durgan all of Rome; a sister: Pauline and Clayton Come also of Rome; 10 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren. In addition to his wife, Doris, Alfred is predeceased by his brother Donald A. and two sisters, Geraldine Castle and Melvina Heburn. Funeral services will be on Wednesday, September 17, 2014, at 2:00 P.M. at the Sundquist Funeral Home in Lowville with Rev. Linda Harris, officiating. Burial will follow in the Turin Cemetery. Calling hours will be prior to the funeral on Wednesday from 12:00 noon to 2:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Memorials in Alfred's name may be made to Jefferson or Lewis County Hospice.
