Pleskach

GLENFIELD - Alex S. Pleskach, 86, formerly of the Glendale Road, a current resident of the Lewis County Residential Heath Care Facility, died early Saturday morning, January 24, 2015.
Mr. Pleskach was born February 12, 1928 at the family homestead in the town of Martinsburg the son of the late Stephen D. and Anastasia (Ermola) Pleskach, and graduated from General Martin High School in 1945. He served in the U.S. Army in the Occupation of Japan until January of 1947, and was honorably discharged. Alex continued his education at Cornell University graduating with a bachelor's degree in Agricultural Economics in 1951. He became a store manager at Grange League Federation "GLF", and later field man for Mutual Federation of Independent Cooperatives.
On June 23, 1951 he married Elizabeth Jane Bolliver at St. Peter's Catholic Church with Msgr. John Cotter, officiating. With his wife Betty they opened Tinker Tavern at Beaches Bridge, which they ran for 12 years. Alex retired as a Lewis County Probation Officer in 1990, after 12 years of service.
He is survived by his wife, Betty, their four sons, Jerry P. and Melissa of Watertown; Thomas D. of Glenfield; Peter A. and Frances of Clonmel, Ireland; Stephen D. of Rehoboth Beach, DE; his seven grandchildren, Alex, Jacob, Laura, Michael, Nicola, Hayley and Daniel; a brother Stephen and his wife Shirley, and his sister, Barbara Mazur all Glenfield. His brother's, Charles and John, sister's Nina Vary, Helen Fetcie, Edith Lasher and Mary Roye predeceased him.
Alex and Betty traveled for 20 years to their winter home in Englewood, Florida, and also where blessed to travel to Hawaii, Jamaica, Puerto Rico, Barbados, Mallorca Island Spain and to their son's home in Ireland. He was an excellent carpenter and craftsman building two homes on Summit Avenue, he loved gardening, cutting wood, deer hunting, going on hunting trips to Alaska, Newfoundland, Quebec, and Wyoming for big game.
He was life member of Lowville Elks Lodge #1605, Lewis County Memorial Post # 6912, V.F.W., Lowville American Legion # 162, and was a founding member of the Little Pine Creek Hunting Club.
Alex was a communicant of St. Peter's Catholic Church where a Mass of Christian burial will be said at 11:00 AM on Thursday, January 29th with Rev. Christopher Carrara, Pastor officiating. Spring Burial will be in Old Glendale Cemetery. Calling hours for family and friends will be on Wednesday, January 28th, from 4 to 7PM at the Sundquist Funeral Home, Lowville.
